This is Chance Storm, with the regional weather summary for the central plains, issued at 5:00 PM on Thu., May 4, 2023.
[_<200>]
[.]
A low pressure system is gradually moving east from the Front
Range into the High Plains. Scattered showers and a few
thunderstorms occurred this afternoon in northeast, southeast and
far western Kansas. Cloud cover and precipitation played a role in
the wide range of temperatures across the state, with afternoon
values ranging from the mid 50s in the far east, to the lower 80s
in the far west. Winds were out of the east to south at speeds of
5 to 20 mph, with the highest values in the southwest corner.
[.]
As this low tracks east, this will bring chances for showers and
thunderstorms across the Central Plains through the evening and
overnight hours. The best chances for any severe thunderstorms
will be across southwest Oklahoma, where large hail, damaging winds
and tornadoes are possible. Elsewhere there is the possibility for
some strong to isolated severe storms, with dime to quarter sized
hail and 50 to 60 mph winds. Overnight temperatures are forecast
to fall to the upper 40s to mid 50s in the High Plains, and the mid
to upper 50s for eastern Nebraska, eastern Kansas, Missouri and
Oklahoma. Winds will predominantly be out of the southeast at 5 to
15 mph, with a northwesterly direction in western Nebraska,
northwestern Kansas, and eastern Colorado on the back side of the
low at speeds around 5 mph.
[.]
Chances for showers and thunderstorms persist into Friday morning
for Nebraska, far eastern Kansas and Missouri. Cloud cover should
push off to the east through the day. Temperatures are forecast to
rise to the upper 60s in northern Nebraska with clouds and
precipitation through the day. Most of the rest of the Central
Plains should reach the mid 70s to mid 80s, with the highest values
in the Panhandles and western Oklahoma. Easterly to southerly
winds will have speeds around 10 mph.
